Add a blog to Squarespace

Paste the CMSKite embed into a Squarespace page and your posts show there, styled like the rest of your site. It takes about five minutes.

Before you start

  • A CMSKite account with at least one published post. The free plan is enough
  • Your blog name. It is the data-blog value in the snippet under Connect website in the dashboard
  • A Squarespace site on the Core plan or higher. Code blocks need it

Add the embed

  1. Make a Blog page

Pages → + → Blank page, name it Blog.

  2. Add a Code block

Edit the page, add a block, choose Code, and paste the snippet. Leave the mode on HTML.

    html
    <div id="cmskite-blog"></div>
    <script src="https://cmskite.com/embed.js" data-blog="your-blog" async></script>
  3. Save and open the live page

Code blocks may not run while you edit.

Where the posts live

Posts open at /blog?post=my-post. Squarespace allows no server rewrites, so that is the address.

Check that it works

  1. Publish a short test post in the dashboard
  2. Open the Squarespace page in a private window and reload. The post should be in the list within a minute
  3. Open the post. Its address should be your site's, not cmskite.com
  4. Delete or unpublish the test post when you are done

Tell Google about the posts

Search engines find embedded posts faster with a sitemap that lists them at your own addresses. CMSKite writes one for you:

plain
https://cmskite.com/b/your-blog/site-sitemap.xml

Squarespace does not let you edit robots.txt. Search engines still find the posts through the links on your blog page; it only takes longer.

Match your colours

The embed takes your site's fonts and text colour by itself. Set the accent (links and buttons) with data-accent, as any CSS colour:

html
<script src="https://cmskite.com/embed.js" data-blog="your-blog" data-accent="#0f766e" async></script>

If something is wrong

What you seeWhat to do
Nothing showsCheck data-blog matches the name under Connect website, and that at least one post is published, not a draft
An old post listPosts appear within a minute of publishing. Reload without the cache (Shift + reload)
The block says scripts are disabledOpen the live page, not the editor preview

What it cannot do

  • Clean /blog/my-post addresses: Squarespace allows no rewrites
