Add a blog to a plain HTML site
Make a blog.html page, paste two lines where the posts should go, and upload it. About five minutes.
Before you start
- Access to upload files to your site
- Your blog name from Connect website in the dashboard
Add the embed
Make a page for the blog
Copy one of your pages to
blog.html, so it has your header and footer, and clear its main content.Paste the snippet
Put it where the posts should appear.
html<div id="cmskite-blog"></div> <script src="https://cmskite.com/embed.js" data-blog="your-blog" async></script>Upload and open it
The post list appears. Each post opens on the same page as
blog.html?post=my-post.
Cleaner addresses (optional)
To have /blog/my-post instead of ?post=my-post, add data-path="/blog" to the script and tell your server to serve the blog page for every address under /blog.
Apache · .htaccess
RewriteEngine On
RewriteRule ^blog/.+$ /blog.html [L]Nginx
location /blog/ {
try_files $uri /blog.html;
}Check that it works
- Publish a short test post in the dashboard
- Open blog.html in a private window and reload. The post should be in the list within a minute
- Open the post. Its address should be your site's, not cmskite.com
- Delete or unpublish the test post when you are done
Tell Google about the posts
Search engines find embedded posts faster with a sitemap that lists them at your own addresses. CMSKite writes one for you:
https://cmskite.com/b/your-blog/site-sitemap.xmlAdd the line Sitemap: https://cmskite.com/b/your-blog/site-sitemap.xml to your robots.txt.
The whole picture is in Making your posts findable.
Match your colours
The embed takes your site's fonts and text colour by itself. Set the accent (links and buttons) with data-accent, as any CSS colour:
<script src="https://cmskite.com/embed.js" data-blog="your-blog" data-accent="#0f766e" async></script>
