Questions

What is CMSKite?

A hosted API for blog content. You write posts in a dashboard or through an API, and your website reads them over HTTP with a read-only key. There is no theme, no template language and no plugin system — it stores and serves content, and your site decides how it looks.

Do I need an account to read the documentation?

No. Everything under /docs is public, including the full endpoint list, the error codes and the limits on every plan. You should be able to decide whether this fits before signing up for anything.

Is there a free plan?

Yes, with no card. It is a real plan rather than a trial: it does not expire. The exact limits are on the Plans page, read live from the API.

Which frameworks does it work with?

All of them. It is HTTP with a bearer token, so anything that can make a request can use it — Next.js, Astro, Nuxt, SvelteKit, Hugo, Laravel, Rails, a static build script, a mobile app.

Is there an SDK?

Yes, for JavaScript and TypeScript: npm install cmskite. It has no dependencies, ships its own types, and adds the four things that are tedious to write on every site — cursor pagination, slug redirects, one error type, and a view counter that cannot break the page. You do not need it: the API is HTTP with a bearer token, the OpenAPI document is published, and plain fetch remains a supported way to use CMSKite.

Can the API key in my website be abused?

A project key is read-only and sees published content only — no drafts, no scheduled posts, in any circumstance. It belongs to one project and cannot reach another. If it is used from a browser you can restrict it to your own origins, and revoking it takes effect within five seconds.

What happens when I hit a limit?

You get a 403 or a 429 with a machine-readable code and the number you hit — not a silent truncation and not a slow request. Rate-limit headers are on every response, including successful ones, so a client can slow down before it is refused.

What happens to my content if I downgrade or stop paying?

Nothing is deleted. Existing content stays readable and editable; the next thing you create is refused. If an invoice goes unpaid, access degrades to the free plan after a grace period rather than stopping. Read access to data you created is never revoked.

Can I keep my content in my own database?

Yes, on every paid plan (Starter, Team and Custom). Point a project at your own MongoDB cluster and every endpoint behaves identically. Disconnecting stops us reading from it and removes nothing from it.

How do I export my data?

One request returns everything a project has stored as newline-delimited JSON, at any time, on any plan. It contains your content and none of our credentials.

Can an AI assistant write posts for me?

Yes. Add https://api.cmskite.com/mcp to Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor or any MCP client, sign in, and press Allow. You choose which workspaces it reaches and whether it may delete; no connected tool can ever change the plan or delete a project.

How do I upgrade?

Ask from the Plan screen. There is no checkout — somebody reads the request, the limits move, and we invoice separately. Your current plan keeps working while the request is open, and you can withdraw it.
