A catering bag that wipes clean in the middle can still hold residue along the zipper, lower corners and front-panel hinge. Those areas matter when the next order has to leave before the bag can be fully cleaned and dried. A purchasing trial should therefore test the whole turnaround, starting with the trays in use and ending with a bag ready for the next dispatch.
Product example. Inspect the fold and the lower corners when comparing how easily the carrier opens for cleaning.
Compare access with the bag in its normal position
Open each sample on the work surface used for dispatch. Check whether the operator can reach the base corners, closure and lining folds without lifting the bag off the counter or pulling the lining out of position. A front-opening panel can expose the base and let trays slide in level. It also adds a fold that needs inspection. A top-opening design may occupy less counter space while open, but reaching the bottom can be harder on a tall bag. Compare the formats with the same tray load and counter clearance.
Use a repeatable cleaning trial
Mark the locations to inspect before testing. Use a safe, visible surrogate for the kind of spill your team normally handles, and apply the same amount to each comparable sample at the base corner, a closure edge and any fold. Have an operator use the cleaning method your operation permits and the supplier says the materials can tolerate. Keep the agent, dilution, tools, contact time and drying setup consistent across candidates. If the approved method differs by bag, record the difference because it affects labour and turnaround.
After cleaning, inspect the same spots in good light, including under removable parts if the design allows removal. Record inaccessible areas, visible residue, pooled moisture and whether the bag can remain open to dry on your rack. Repeat the planned cleaning cycles on the sample, then look for lining damage, lifted bonds or harder zipper movement. Use your facility's sanitation procedure for any additional checks. A visible inspection compares access and residue removal. It does not establish microbiological safety.
Put the result in the purchase specification
Agree which areas must be reachable, what counts as acceptable after cleaning, and how long the bag can occupy the drying rack between dispatches. Keep the sample identifier, cleaning method, result at each inspection point and photos of any failure. If a corner fails, ask the supplier to propose a change to access or construction and repeat the same trial before approving production.
YUANEN's front-opening insulated catering bag example shows the fold-down panel and tray access you can compare in your own trial. Confirm the actual lining, seam construction and approved cleaning method on the quoted sample.
