An electric kettle is a countertop appliance that heats water with an enclosed element and switches off when the water boils. In Singapore, where flats are compact and mornings move fast, the device sits beside the coffee press and the noodle pot, ready for tea, instant food, and baby formula. Its appeal is simple: hot water in minutes, without watching a stove or waiting for a pot to boil over.
A recent study by Markntel Advisor highlights that the Singapore electric kettle report was valued at USD 8.1 million in 2025 and is projected to grow from USD 8.3 million in 2026 to USD 9.5 million by 2032, registering a CAGR of 2.28% during 2026–2032. Stainless steel represented 58% in 2026, while residential use held 83%.
Steel Bodies Win Trust as Daily Boiling Becomes a Household Habit
Steel has become the default choice for a simple reason: it survives daily use without fuss. A kettle that boils several times a day needs a body that resists rust, wipes clean, and keeps its shape after years of steam and heat. Plastic can feel light and glass can look elegant, but neither matches steel for the confidence of a pot that works, morning after morning, without staining or warping.
That confidence shows up in shops, where steel models appear across price ranges, from basic one-button kettles to heavier builds with filtered spouts. Shoppers tend to pick what their parents used and what their neighbours recommend, and steel benefits from that familiarity. When a household replaces a kettle, it rarely experiments wildly; it buys the same material again, in a better shape.
Safety Rules Shape What Reaches Shelves in the City State Today
Singapore treats household kettles as Controlled Goods, which means a model cannot appear on a shelf and start selling. Before supply, makers and importers must test the appliance, register it with the safety office, and carry the SAFETY Mark that shoppers look for. The rule covers kettles up to ten litres and two hundred and fifty volts, and it follows a safety standard for appliances that heat liquids.
The effect is visible in online stores, where non-compliant listings get pulled rather than left to compete on price alone. Recently, thousands of household-appliance listings were removed from major platforms, with kitchen countertop items making up a large share of the cases. For honest makers, the paperwork is a burden; for buyers, it is the reason a cheap kettle still feels safe to leave boiling.
Smaller Homes Push Demand Toward Quicker and Smarter Boiling
Singapore homes are getting smaller, and the numbers tell that story plainly. National statistics on shrinking households show resident households rising to 1.49 million in 2025, while average household size slipped to 3.06 persons. Fewer people under one roof means smaller pots of tea, single cups of coffee, and less patience for a stove that takes its time.
That shift suits the kettle perfectly, and it also explains why makers now sell temperature control as a feature rather than a luxury. Different drinks want different heat: green tea turns bitter in rolling water, while baby formula needs warm water rather than boiling water. Some models now offer six settings across a wide range, with keep-warm functions and app controls, so one appliance can cover the whole household routine.
Durability Becomes the Pitch as Buyers Replace Ageing Kettles
Growth here does not come from first-time buyers, because most homes already own a kettle. It comes from replacement, and replacement only happens when the old kettle gives a reason to go. A heating element that scales up, a lid that stops sealing, or a spout that drips can all push a household to the shops, but a kettle that still works will stay on the counter for years.
Makers have answered with longer-lasting elements, corrosion-resistant builds, better limescale resistance, and replaceable parts, along with clearer information about lifespan and warranties. The safety certification framework overseen in Singapore also rewards that approach, since tested and registered products stand apart from unregistered ones. Durability, in other words, has become the sales argument that features alone could not carry.
A Quiet Appliance Keeps Proving Its Worth Every Single Morning
The kettle will never be the most exciting appliance in the kitchen, and that is precisely its strength. It does one job, it does it fast, and it asks for almost nothing in return. As homes shrink, mornings quicken, and buyers look harder at what they replace, that simple reliability keeps earning its place on the counter, one cup at a time.
